Itinerary

Day 1: January 2

We’ll meet you at the Ft. Myers airport (RSW) and head straight to Everglades City. We will arrive in time for an early dinner before an orientation to our charts and trip plan.

Day 2: January 3

We’ll start the morning with paddle school. Our sea kayaks are stable and easy to navigate so it won’t take long to begin paddling like a pro. Once we’re all comfortable we’ll head out on the water and a beautiful destination in the 10,000 Islands.

Days 3-5: January 4-6

Each day will have a different adventure as we paddle through mangrove tunnels and open marshes on our way to the next island destination. Nights camping on the beach with five-star meals will be the perfect end to beautiful days.

Day 6: January 7

We’ll paddle back to Everglades City, retire our boats before a celebratory dinner. Every great trip ends with a great meal.

Day 7: January 8

After our final evening around the campfire we’ll rise early and head back to the airport.

FAQs

Q. Is airfare included in the cost of the trip?

A. No, airfare is not included in the registration, but flights into Ft. Myers are very reasonable.

Q. How should I book my flight?

A. All flights should be booked through our travel partner, Sequel Travel. Julia Buie at Sequel will reach out to you directly to book flights.

Q. Where will we be sleeping during the trip?

A. Apart from the first and last nights we'll be sleeping on the beach. Traveling in kayaks allows us to bring a lot of gear, so we'll be comfortable and eat well.

Q. Will we do anything other than kayaking?

A. Definitely. The best days have a lot of variety. Ours will include traveling by boat, preparing meals together, playing and swimming on the beaches, and time to hand out with new friends around the campfire. Most of us will be coming from busy holiday schedules and returning to busier days at home, so we want this to be a simple, unrushed time with new friends.

Q. How is Black Mountain Expeditions (BME) related to Merri-Mac and Timberlake?

A. Merri-Mac, Timberlake and BME are owned and operated by the Boyd family and this trip is a place where all three groups can meet.

Q. Who can I speak to if I have additional questions?

A. You can reach us at the Black Mountain Expeditions office at (828) 669-8766. Please ask to speak to Patrick Emery, our Black Mountain Expeditions director.

Payment will be refundable until 11/15/23 minus a $300 processing fee. After this date there are no refunds available.
